American Express has commissioned legendary pop artist, Sir Peter, to shine the spotlight on small businesses with his artwork and we are very excited to announce that The Dressing Room founder, Deryane Tadd has been chosen to represent Small Business Fashion Retailers in the artwork.
Sir Peter Blake is one of the leading figures in the art world, often referred to as the Godfather of British Pop Art. Best known for the iconic album cover he produced for the Beatles ‘Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band’, Blake’s work is inspired by his love affair with icons and the ephemera of popular culture.
For the first time in his career, Blake is turning his attention to small business owners to create a unique collage of shopkeepers (40 in all) called HIGH STREET HEROES, which will be released to celebrate and promote Small Business Saturday.
Sir Peter Blake comments: “Small shops and the Great British Shopkeeper have been at the forefront of British culture for hundreds of years now. The notion of a ‘Nation of Shopkeepers’ is embedded in our folklore and the wonderful variety of today’s independent shops as well as the character that small businesses bring to a local area make them an ideal subject matter for modern pop art. Having worked at a local butcher at the age of 13 I have also experienced the dedication and hard work that goes into running a small shop. It is for all these reasons that I am thrilled to be lending my support to a campaign that champions small businesses.”
The Dressing Room owner Deryane Tadd comments: “The Dressing Room was set up to provide tailored shopping experiences for customers, and like many small shops we try to make the high streets unique. It’s great that someone of Sir Peter Blake’s stature is lending his support to small businesses and we’re very proud to be a part of it.”
