We kicked off spring time in style last Sunday with another fantastic customer event.  The shop was buzzing with happy customers despite the miserable weather outside!

We'd been working our little fashion mitts off to make sure the shop looked amazing!

Our favourite St Albans bar, Mokokos kept us watered with delicious cocktails and there were gorgeous goody bags for the first 50 customers. Plus there were gorgeous raffle prizes to be won from Nobody jeans, Mercy Delta and Weston scarves.  Thank you to all those who entered as we raised lots of money for local hospice charity Grove House.

The lovely Anais from American Vintage was down to show us the best ways to wear the collection, plus she brought with her some lush ‘not yet seen’ pieces.

Here at the Dressing Room we all love Equipment, its this seasons must have designer and its collection of shirts can be worn in so many ways, they are a true wardrobe staple and a must have item for everybody. We all adore Equipment so much we decided to choose our favourite shirt and style it up in three different ways to give you some ideas of how to wear them. Our personal winner has to be this gorgeous, sheer Silk Snake Skin Printed Shirt from Equipment. Our stylists have been very busy this week and even though it was very hard to decide, finally agreed and narrowed it down to just three out of the many possibilities. Deryane Tadd, our own retail guru tells us how to find The Perfect Tee

What makes the perfect T shirt?  The perfect T is something that would seem simple to find, but when you actually start looking you can spend weeks, months, even years on the search!  To help you in your quest we have the following tips:

American Vintage Jacksonville Tee - A fav with the Dressing Room girls

The perfect T should be made from good quality cotton, have a slight A-line swing to the shape and sit just on the middle of your hips.  You need enough length to ensure it doesn’t ride up but you don’t want it too long that it swamps you.  The neckline should be a relaxed round neck or V neck depending on your shape and preference.

Trends come and go with T shirt brands.  The current trends that are worth buying into are Colour blocking and Layering.  Mix up your colours by putting a bright tank underneath a V neck T or layer a long sleeve underneath a short sleeve.

Layering your Tees with style all depends on the fabric.  Your layering pieces need to be of the most superfine cotton possible to give you that laid back look.  American Vintage does a range called Massachusetts which is designed specifically for layering.  Your bottom layer should always be the finest and then you can either layer with more of the same or use a less sheer cotton on top.

The best brands to buy into for the Perfect T are American Vintage – a French layering concept that does the job beautifully and is available in a myriad of colours. Finding the perfect T for your shape:

• Big Bust – look for v neck’s to balance your shape.
• Round Tum – A line shapes flatter all shapes and will work particularly well to hide a round tummy.  Layering your lengths will also draw attention away from an unwanted lumps and bumps.
• Petite/slim – layer fitted styles together in contrasting colours to make the most of your figure.  Muscle Tee’s and slash necks will broaden your shoulders so work perfectly if you have a small frame.
• Wobbly under arms – layer a superfine long sleeved t underneath a short sleeve T or choose a short sleeved style that sits halfway down your upper arm.
• Broad shoulders – a v neck or scoop neck will balance your shoulders.  Steer clear of round necks and slash necks.

T shirt Tips

• Find a style that works for you and stock up in a few colours.

• Replace your White layering pieces each season – they really only look fresh for one season.
• In Spring replace Black for Navy
• You can never go wrong with White or grey marl.

• Slub cotton always looks stylish.
